This site was created basically to disseminate technical material, with no commercial purpose.
Only technical information from the Electrical Auxiliary Services area is published.
Despite being specifically directed to use in hydroelectric power plants, it can also be used in other types of installations, with the necessary adaptations.
This site is replacing the Juscan Engenharia site, where this material was being published.
Due to the lack of feedback on the publications on the Juscan Engenharia website, the changes were made on the initiative of the author who, as far as possible, made some corrections, improvements, and presentation details, which are being included in the reviews published on this website.
The demonstrations of the calculations of the technical information did not change.
Any changes to the documents will be made whenever necessary and convenient.
For the dissemination of the material in Spanish and English, the translation was made with the help of Microsoft and Google applications. Therefore, both in the technical information and in the spreadsheets, inaccuracies and grammatical errors may occur. Some of these errors can also occur in documents in Portuguese, due to the natural difficulties of preparing this type of material. However, it is expected that these problems do not compromise the purpose of the work.
Due to the resources available to circumvent information security, and as all relevant information is available in technical information, there is no intention to create difficulties in its use.
The worksheets are protected for ease of use and prevent the user from inadvertently changing their configuration. The cells that are not blocked are the ones that the user must fill in to get the results. If the user wants to edit them, the worksheets can be unprotected, using the corresponding function, without the need for a password. However, the user must bear in mind that the use of spreadsheets must be done responsibly.
The computer resources currently available allow complex calculations to be carried out in fractions of seconds. When these resources did not exist, calculations were done manually, with the help of slide rules or simple calculators.
As the internet did not exist, technical material and research were done in expensive books or publications by equipment and material manufacturers. Among the technical books we can mention the Industrial Power Systems Handbook, by Donald Beeman; publications by Eduardo Barros of General Electric and others. Beeman's book contains abacuses, graphs, tables, and simplified formulas to carry out installation calculations.
The advantage of using spreadsheets is the speed to obtaining results, the accuracy of which will depend on the accuracy of the input data, without the need to register on websites to use them.
Calculating results, using the formulas shown in the technical informations, is not a task that can be performed without aid of spreadsheets, due to their complexity, and to obtain values practically equal to those that would be found using approximate methods.
Disclosure of spreadsheets only, in Excel, would be sufficient to obtain the results. However, to use other programs or applications similar to Excel, formulas are necessary to allow their application and knowledge of the assumptions that were considered. On the other hand, the theoretical part of publications can be improved and enriched with current information.
